State Number 4   09 April 2007
The girls are officially in their fourth state (of a total five) of the Walk: Colorado. Last week, we left off with them in Blanding, Utah. They marched 53 miles due north to La Sal Junction. From there, they headed east over the mountain pass to Bedrock, Co, adding another 37 miles. And then once again headed north, 49 miles, to Gateway, Co, for a grand total of 139 miles (click the map at the bottom for a detailed overview.)

The remaining Utah portion of the walk sounded long and uneventful, with weather staying on the side of the walkers. Once over the Colorado state line, the girls camped in Naturita and met up with some other members of the Marine Corps family.
Today, April 9, is not only the four year anniversary of the fall of Baghdad to American forces, which you have probably been watching on the news all day. But it was also today three years ago that LCPL Chance Phelps was killed in action in the Anbar province of Iraq. He was a young man spurred to action by the sudden and deliberate attacks on our nation, and he pledged to Never Forget.
Chance, we will never forget you or your comrades who have sacrificed for the call of duty.
